Compassionate Care

I am incredibly grateful to have been connected with Nvard and Grant Serenity.

After multiple surgeries and hospital stays (within a very short amount of time) resulting in rapidly advanced Alzheimer’s and medically complex needs, I shared my dads story with Nvard who listened to my father’s case, intently, holistically and compassionately. She immediately knew what he needed and committed to it.

Shortly thereafter, we moved my dad to Grant Serenity for his safety, his comfort and his peace.

Nvard and her caregivers have not disappointed.

They have given my dad wonderful care, transforming him from a very dire state to one of stability, comfort and peace. With patience, compassion, good food, outdoor walks and live music, my father is enjoying the best days he has had in a very very long time.

Knowing he is safe and well cared for by great caregivers in a beautiful surrounding has given my family a great deal of comfort.

Thank you Nvard for taking such wonderful care of my father.

I want to thank you and your staff for making my mother’s hospice stay such a caring experience. Your facility is outstanding. My mother was extremely happy living in your home for the last two months of her life. She expressed her pleasure with the accommodations frequently during my many visits. Her room was always kept very clean and tidy, giving my mother a sense of home!! However, no matter how nice your facility is, your staff is what made her last days very comfortable. She had nothing but praise for the staff who tended to her every need. Please thank your staff for making my mother’s last days as comfortable as possible considering her condition. Finally, thank you for providing some direction and assistance to me during this very difficult time!

We brought my 77 year old father to live here when his care needs became too great for him to live at home. I can say without hesitation that he had the most nurturing and warm care from the day that he moved in until the day he passed away. We will forever be grateful to have experienced this special place.

When we began our search for a place for my Dad to live, I was so nervous that it would be a depressing, soul-less atmosphere. And honestly, a number of the places we visited did feel that way. That’s why we were so amazed – over and over again – by the familial nature and wonderful feeling of warmth that was cultivated at the Grant Serenity house. Every time that we brought a friend or other family member there to visit my Dad, they would always remark that the feeling of the place was great, so much better than what they’d imagined.

His caretakers – Gladys, Lourdes and Maria – are incredible, hard-working, and supremely kind people. When my Dad couldn’t sleep, they would stay up at night with him so he wouldn’t feel lonely. They kept us updated about how he was doing, sending us videos of him dancing with them, or clapping along with music that he liked. They were affectionate, holding his hand and giving him hugs, and he was always treated him with dignity and respect. We were always welcome to visit him, and became familiar with the other residents’ family members who would also be visiting. It was always friendly, comfortable and warm place.

The house was immaculate, always filled with the scent of home made stews and fresh food, colorful paintings and holiday decorations. There was always a personal touch- the caretakers had hand made a stocking with my Dad’s initials on it for Christmas, and after he passed, gave us a photo of him that they had printed out and decorated. We’re all feeling such peace knowing that he was comfortable, well taken care of and genuinely happy in his last days.

I brought my 91 year old mom from Northern California a year ago to live at my home until I was no longer able to care for her and her rapidly declining Alzheimer’s disease. Being a perfectionist, I did a most thorough research on assisted living facilities in the Los Angeles area. When I walked into the “Peach House” the Van Nuys home, I knew I found exactly what I was looking for, a place I myself would reside in, it was Nirvana! Later as I toured the other Grant Serenity homes I realized that they were all alike. I feel blessed that I found Nvard and the way she passionately cares for each of her clients. My mom’s medical needs were always attended to with urgency, respectful consideration of her wishes and excellence in judgement. I always felt secure that all of my mom’s physical and emotional needs were taken care of in a most professional and compassionate way.

In addition, all of the homes are immaculate, both inside and out with the gardens full of blooming plants, flowers and fruit trees. The walls are adorned with beautiful art work and there is a genuine feeling of warmth and coziness. The kitchen is overflowing with fresh fruit and vegetables and the food served is delicious. My mom loved soups and was served her favorite ones daily, all home cooked. When she got to the stage when she had difficulty swallowing, the staff would sit there for hours with utmost patience and love spoon feeding her and encouraging her to eat. All the staff was so tuned to my mom’s needs. They played music and danced with her, they role played during her delusions and pretended that this was her home and they were her guests. They held her and hugged her when she needed to be consoled, they slept on the sofa in her room when she was scared to be alone. They laughed with her and cried with her and later with me, when I needed to be cared for emotionally. I am an only child and the only family my mom had. The staff was her family and when it was time for her to die, we all sat together, cried together, told stories of her life and held one another tight. Truly, I don’t know how I would have gone through these last stages of my mom’s life without Nvard and her angels, her staff. I love them all and my heart is full of love, peace and gratitude to this amazing group of people. They are my family and will forever stay in my heart alongside the precious memories of my mom.

I drive from San Diego every other weekend to visit my 100 year old friend of 55 years. Grant Serenity Home in Van Nuys deserves five stars for taking such amazing good care of my precious friend. It’s in a beautiful setting with lovely florals, beautifully kept up landscaping, and shaded patios. They have security, are spotless, have a wonderful thoughtful and compassionate staff. I would highly recommend this senior care home to anyone who wants their loved ones treated very well and never neglected!!!
